Yes, the summer is upon us, so it's time to take it outside boys and girls and what better way then in the hands of two minimal masters. Appearing on Dumb-Unit to transform the super tight GROTBOX from DU 018 into a sprawling, dark summer masterpiece are Glasgow's Alex Smoke and Germany's Frank Martiniq...First up is MR ALEX SMOKE, the mad Scotsman; although one of the busiest men of 2004 it still looks like he had some time to go digging up shrooms in the garden as this mix is one deep mind f&*! Starting from his favourite position, down in the dirt, where the smallest pieces of tracks grow, Mr smoke builds a sinister story out of the bit and cuts of Jeremy's original. Next in line is the precision king, The German from Neumuenster; Frank Martiniq. Another busy man with a solid 2004 under his belt and a new focus as a soldier in the army of elemental funk. Here he proves he's not just another grunt. Like Smoke, Frank digs deep to find the right pieces to build his theory. Slightly tribal, slighly low fi but still swinging hypnotic tech-house, Frank's mix is an excursion into layered drums and washes of digital noise.
